AMBALA: Even though a tentative date has been set for laying the foundation stone of the memorial to be raised for unsung heroes of the 1857 revolt, the district administration is yet to consult related documents from the archives department.
On Monday, the administration informed to have fixed April 18 as the tentative date for laying the foundation stone of the memorial by Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.
There have also been allegations againsd the administration of projecting one particular author while ignoring historians who have worked on this subject, while finalizing the project.
The administration doesn't seem to have done much ground work, before getting started with the project. In fact, the archives records which bring out the exact place from where the revolt started are yet to be consulted.
Speaking to TOI, Vijay Vardhan, financial commissioner, Archives Department, Haryana confirmed having visited Ambala for the arrangements related to laying of the foundation stone of the memorial.
"This is a long term project. The experts and related documents can be studied at a later stage,'' Vardhan said. Among the documents that should be consulted before going ahead with project are those regarding raising issue in British Parliament, the cantonment area where bungalows were torched and the details of villages which were torched by Britishers to curb the revolt, besides revenue records of villages.
